P: I have a problem with a employee who has a Flat rate 14% tax set up in his personal rates.

His pay is always placed on hold until a payroll edit is completed and a figure put in for tax. This has been happening for three pays now.

  • He has recently gone on four week annual leave I tried to pay him his whole annual leave in advance
  • When I ran his payroll placed on hold again I tried to put in the tax figure pay was still on hold.

A: Generally the only reason a pay is put onto HOLD is if the earnings less deductions is negative. So, let's first look at the definition of your tax scale - which is as follows:

Tax 14 percent

It looks like 14.00%, However, if we take a quick look at another scale which applies a flat rate of say 48.50% as per No Tax File Number (NFTN), it is
described as follows:

No Tax File Number

Both Coeff A & B, have a value defined as .4850.

Therefore, if you alter your 14.00 to read .1400 and include them both for Coeff A & B, the tax details will be defined correctly.

Then please re-run the pay and confirm that the pay is no longer on HOLD.
