P: On our client site in Victoria, last Tuesday's Melbourne Cup day was a Public Holiday in Melbourne.

However, the shifts are not being paid the Public Holiday leave loading?

A: The following quick steps resolved that the client did not have their Public Holiday being calculated for the particular classification in question.

  1. Check the calendar to ensure that the date of the Cup is in fact noted as a Public Holiday. If it is not setup, ensure that you set the date as a Public Holiday in Vic.
  2. Check the Classification code under which the shift is being worked.
  3. Confirm via Payroll / Classification codes:
  • On the penalties tab, check that there is a loading noted eg PHL
  • On the same tab, ensure that the checkbox "Pay Public Holiday" is ticked - this is what makes the loading work.
